Become a Mentor

Goals and Objectives

  • To mentor young men into becoming an individual that will be dependable, honest, reliable and respectful to mankind. 
  • To teach young men how to make positive choices and hold them accountable for their actions. 
  • To help the young men learn to set short-term and long-term goals. 
  • To promote anger management, coping skills and effective techniques to avoid typical negative consequences such as suspensions, arrests, and damaged relationships. 
  • To encourage young men to have a vision of the future of what they want to become in life including college, career or military. 
  • To teach young men the importance of respecting themselves, women and society.

Mentor Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a Leader
  • Reside in the tri-county area
  • Be willing to adhere to all Mentors of Montgomery policies and procedures
  • Agree to a one-year commitment to the program
  • Commit to spending a minimum of one hour a week with the mentee via phone or in person
  • Be willing to communicate with the mentee weekly
  • Complete the screening procedure
  • Agree to attend mentor trainings as required
  • Be willing to communicate regularly with the program coordinator and submit monthly meeting and activity information
  • Have access to an automobile or reliable transportation
  • Have a current driver’s license, auto insurance, and good driving record
  • Have a clean criminal history
  • Have never been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse or molestation
  • Not be a convicted felon. If the applicant has been convicted of a felony then they may be considered only after a period of seven years with demonstrated good behavior and an appropriate and corrective attitude regarding past behaviors.
  • Not be a user of illicit drugs
  • Not currently in treatment for substance abuse.   
  • Not have falsified information during the course of the screening process.
  • Complete the screening process
